Finding a stay that's right for you

Want help finding a great place to stay? Here are the top areas that guests have questions about when they’re searching for their next trip.

Booking Basics

As long as you enter your destination, travel dates, and number of guests when searching on Wehome, all listings that show up should be available. To make sure the space is just right, use the search filters to find a place entirely to yourself, or other options if you’d prefer some shared spaces. Once you find a place you like, you may still have questions about it. While you can’t visit the property before booking, you can contact the Host to find out more. Also ask them about specific amenities, the neighborhood, or the location since they are the best source for all details. They may even send you a pre-approval or special offer to entice you to book their place.

Whether you’d like a cozy retreat or a lively space to meet new people, we want you to find a place that’s just right. Hosts on Wehome offer a wide variety of spaces, ranging from shared rooms to private islands. There are four types of places: entire place, private room, hotel room, and shared room.

  • Entire places are best if you’re seeking a home away from home. With an entire place, you’ll have the whole space to yourself. This usually includes a bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a separate, dedicated entrance. Hosts should note in the description if they’ll be on the property or not (ex: “Host occupies first floor of the home”), and provide further details on the listing.
  • Private rooms are great when you prefer a little privacy, yet still value a local connection. When you book a private room, you’ll have your own private bedroom for sleeping but will share some spaces with others, like the Host or other guests. Learn more about what is considered a private room.
  • Hotel room: Whether private or shared, hotel rooms provide a level of service and hospitality associated with traditional hotels. The rooms are available in boutique or lifestyle hotels, hostels, bed and breakfasts, or similar properties. They typically include vibrant common areas and rooms with unique touches.
  • Shared rooms are for when you don’t mind sharing a space with others. When you book a shared room, you’ll be sleeping in a space that is shared with others and sharing the entire space with other people. Shared rooms are popular among flexible travelers who want to make new friends and find budget-friendly stays.

In addition to searching for places to stay based on room type, you can also filter searches to find something more specific like a pool or to browse listings that are good for traveling with a family.

You’re more than welcome to contact a Host at any time. Sometimes, you’ll have to—other times, it’s simply a good idea.

When you must message a Host
Unless you’ve found an Instant Book listing, you’ll have to request that the Host accept your stay. At the Confirm and pay stage of your request, you’ll need to include a brief message about why you’re traveling and when you’ll check-in.

When it’s a good idea to reach out

  • Before sending a trip request: You could send a pre-emptive hello or double-check that their place is available.
  • If you have a question: You should be clear about what to expect. Just check the listing description to make sure the answer isn’t already there.
  • If you’re already booked but you need more info: You can use your message thread with your Host or you can go to your Trips.

Haven’t heard back?
Most Hosts respond within a few hours, but time zones and lack of internet access might slow things down. In the meantime, try reaching out to other Hosts in the area. Just be careful not to send more than one trip request for the same dates to ensure you don’t end up double booked.

To help ensure the safety and privacy of guests and Hosts, complete your booking before asking to visit. We only release contact information after reservations are confirmed.

Additionally, be sure to keep all booking, messaging, and financial transactions directly on the Wehome website or app.

How to learn more before you book
There are plenty of ways to get a clear idea of a place without visiting the property:

  • Review the listing carefully and message the Host with specific questions
  • Check out their profile verifications
  • Read reviews for more detail
  • Browse verified photos

Let’s say you contact a Host about their place before requesting to book it. The Host can then invite you to book in two ways:

  • Invitation to book: Allows you to book for the dates and prices shown when you contacted the Host.
  • Special offer: Host chooses a custom price (or other details) and invites you to book with the new details. You’ll have 24 hours to accept the special offer.

To accept an invitation to book or special offer:

  1. Go to your Inbox and open your Host’s message
  2. Review the details of your pre-approval or special offer and click or tap Book now
  3. Next, click Reserve and review your payment info
  4. Click or tap Confirm and pay
Note: The special offer will be for the nightly rate, cleaning fees, and any extra guest fees, but it doesn’t include taxes, the service fee, or the security deposit (only certain Hosts can charge a security deposit). You will get a detailed breakdown of the price before you finalize the booking.

Finding the right place

Enter your destination, travel dates, and number of guests to help narrow down your search. You can also use the search filters, like accessibility or amenities, to help you find stays that match what you’re looking for.

We believe that anyone can belong anywhere—and we want to make it easier for people with disabilities and other accessibility needs to travel.

For the most accurate results, always begin your search by choosing your:

  • Destination
  • Check-in and checkout dates
  • Total number of guests

By selecting Filters on the search results page, you’ll find popular filters, such as:

  • Type of place: From shared rooms to entire places, learn more about the types of places to stay.
  • Price range: Use the sliding scale to narrow down your search within your price range. Keep in mind that many places to stay are unique, and different attributes may affect the nightly rate.
  • Instant Book: Find places you can book without waiting for Host approval.

You can also use Wehome Categories to filter by unique listings.

More filters

Want to get more specific? Here are more filters to help you choose the right place.

  • Rooms and beds: Bedrooms, bathrooms, beds—choose the number that’s right for your group.
  • Property type: It’s your stay, so what’s your vibe? Search for villas, hostels, apartments, and more.
  • Amenities: Some people need a working kitchen, others want a TV, and the rest want free parking. Choose what you need to be comfortable.
  • Facilities: Pool? Gym? You’ve got options.
  • Host language: Choose Hosts who speak a language you know.
  • House rules: Do you want somewhere that allows pets? Are you planning on having any local visitors during your stay? Search for places with rules that suit you.

It is important that those who use Wehome are respectful of local communities. That respect includes trying to avoid disturbing neighbors with disruptive parties, events, noise, or other disruptive behaviors and actions. This Policy covers our ban on disruptive gatherings and other community disturbances during listing stays.
